Cage-free Impact Incentives to Help Asian Food Companies Meet Commitment

Created by Global Food Partners (GFP), Cage-free Impact Incentives are innovative programmes tailored for the Asian food industry. Impact incentives are endorsed by leading animal advocacy organisations, including The Humane League and Mercy for Animals, as the interim solution to help Asian food companies transition to  100% cage-free egg supply.

So, what are Cage-free Impact Incentives? Cage-free Impact Incentives, also referred to as Impact Incentives, Incentives, credits, or cage-free egg credits, are market-based financial mechanisms designed to accelerate the transition to cage-free egg production. This system allows food businesses to purchase credits from certified cage-free egg producers, providing economic incentives for compliance with specific animal welfare standards. Administered by GFP, the Incentives programme enables food companies to support cage-free production and offset their use of eggs from caged systems without immediate supply chain changes.

This programme is especially beneficial for food companies operating in Asia, where sourcing  cage-free eggs can be challenging. When your company purchases credits in the scheme, the money you pay will support existing farms that produce cage-free eggs, helping them maintain their cage-free egg production.

Leading global companies such as Lagardère, a prominent international company in the retail and foodservice sectors, and Compass Group, one of the world’s largest foodservice corporations, have officially announced joining Cage-free Impact Incentives. This decision will help them to achieve their goal of using exclusively cage-free eggs by the end of 2025, thereby enhancing animal welfare and meeting consumers’ demand for ethically sourced food.

With decades of experience, GFP is headquartered in Singapore and has been supporting food industries across Asia. Planet for All is collaborating with GFP to promote Cage-free Impact Incentives to food companies in Hong Kong. If you are interested in learning more about Impact Incentives, visit here.
