Planet For All, Hong Kong’s first non-profit organization dedicated to farmed animal welfare, partnered with the renowned cruelty-free beauty brand LUSH for a major Media Event today at the LUSH Causeway Bay store, with Vegetarian Food Asia and Taste of Veg attending as supporting organizations. Themed Cage-Free Hong Kong, Hong Kong’s first laying hen welfare campaign, the Media Event garnered support from various animal-loving public figures, including Hong Kong badminton player and Olympian Tse Ying Suet, singer Adrian Chau, and model Hidy Yu. The Media Event exposed the cruelty and public health risks associated with the battery cage system in the egg industry, urging the adoption of cage-free egg sourcing by businesses and consumers, based on ethical, food safety, and sustainability concerns.
After the launch, the second floor of LUSH’s Causeway Bay store will be open as a "Battery Cage Experience Zone" until June 29. Co-designed by Planet For All and local designers Brian Lee and Eva Leung, the space allows visitors to personally experience what life is like for farm hens. The public is welcome to visit. Additionally, Planet For All will host a public “Cage-Free Hong Kong Exhibition” at LUSH’s Tsim Sha Tsui K11 store until July 31. We hope that after understanding the cruelty of the egg industry, citizens can help speak up for the hens by signing our petition.

Conscious Businesses Champion Cage-Free Eggs: LUSH, Vegetarian Food Asia and Taste of Veg Support the Movement
Established 30 years ago, LUSH has always championed animal rights, supporting various animal protection initiatives. Miranda Cheung, LUSH Hong Kong & Macau General Manager, shared: "LUSH is committed to defending animal rights. We ceased using eggs in 2019, transitioning to plant-based ingredients like aquafaba for products such as hair masks, demonstrating that we can create effective products without harming animals. We fully back Planet For All's cage-free advocacy, and we firmly believe that businesses must take social responsibility by transforming their procurement practices for better animal welfare."
Seiko Lee, General Manager of Taste of Veg, a supporting organization for the event, stated: "As a long-standing strategic partner of Vegetarian Food Asia, we have observed a continuous rise in both exhibitor and participant numbers. Our previous survey on Hong Kong's vegetarian population also revealed that the proportion of vegetarians and flexitarians in Hong Kong has risen from 20% in 2014 to 75% in 2023. This indicates that Hong Kong citizens' awareness of vegetarianism and animal protection is rising rapidly, and businesses are adapting by offering more welfare-friendly products to attract consumers." As public concern for animal welfare grows, businesses are responsible for actively transitioning to cage-free practices, thereby meeting consumer expectations.

Multiple Public Figures Attended, Shredding Light on Laying Hen Welfare
The event attracted various public figures, including Hong Kong badminton player and Olympian Tse Ying Suet; singer Adrian Chau, a long-time vegetarian; model Hidy Yu; and artist Bonde Sham. After watching a video about battery cage cruelty, Tse Ying Suet stated in an interview: "As an athlete, I've had many injuries myself. Sometimes when I sit cross-legged for a long time at home, I feel pain the moment I stand up. So, I truly cannot imagine what it's like for them (hens), not just for a moment, but for their entire lives spent growing up in that place."

Good Egg Award to be Launched in Hong Kong to Recognize Corporate Cage-Free Commitments
Ethical sourcing has become a new trend among corporations as public awareness of animal welfare surges. Over 70 companies in Hong Kong have already committed to cage-free sourcing, including The Landmark Mandarin Oriental, IKEA, and TamJai SamGor. Leveraging this positive atmosphere for corporate cage-free transitions, Planet for All is collaborating with Compassion in World Farming this year to launch the globally renowned Good Egg Award in Hong Kong. The award recognizes catering, retail, and food companies that publicly commit to fully adopting cage-free eggs within five years. Since its establishment in 2007, the Good Egg Award has been highly respected internationally, with global brands such as IKEA, Marks & Spencer, and Starbucks having previously participated and won the award.
